It was only a matter of time before I got around to an Hawaiian inspired piece for Beach Cities, and with a few previous customers asking, I figured I was due.
Hawaii is a dreamworld for most, no big secret there, but it has a special place in my heart. I have family there, spent many vacations there and even married my best friend on this very beach. If you’ve been to Hawaii, you know what I mean. If you’ve never been, GO!
“No Ka Oi” literally means “The Best” and that is what Hawaii is to me. This postcard style print is a reminder to everyone that the islands are calling. Available in 11×14, 8×10 and 5×7. Enjoy!

I started a new project recently, totally different than any other art project I’ve done before, but I’ve really sunk myself into this one and I’m having a lot of fun doing it.
It started with my attempt to get back into the ocean and surf after more than a dozen years. I floundered helplessly the first time, and the second, too out of shape to actually get into a wave, but the idea of being in the water was invigorating in itself. It’s hard to explain to anyone who hasn’t surfed, but the feeling of floating on the water, waiting for the swells to roll in, being really in touch with nature (yeah, a little hippie-dippie, I know), it’s almost spiritual.
So I started this new series of digital collage surf art and I’m really feeling like I’m onto something. I’ve only made one sale so far, but I think the idea will catch on. I just have to find the market, or have the market find me. I know it exists, and I feel like I’m on the verge of something good.
Coincidentally, I came across a fellow collage artists named Kelly Rae and read through some of archived blogs posts from the beginning. This one piece really struck me and know exactly what she’s feeling here.
Ever have that feeling that you are just going to bust at the seems with happiness, anticipation, and inspiration? like you are on the edge of something great? like you are about to make a grand discovery. and it just might be inside of you, in your heart, in your hands, in your vision? i am feeling like that right now and i am going to pay attention to it this time.
Kelly is doing really well with her at and even consults with people about how to create a successful art/craft business. I don’t really have any aspirations to consult, but I do want to make this a successful venture, and it feels like I’m in the same place she was back then. We’ll see where it takes us I guess.
You can check out my new series of work, entitled Beach Cities, over on my Etsy shop. Let me know what you think and if you dig it, pick yourself up a print or two.

Gutenberg’s Discontent
14″x 14″
Acrylic on Canvas
1.5″ thick canvas with painted black sides
Johannes Gutenberg was the inventor of movable type, which gave way to printing as we know it. With a strong base of process color (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black), I tap into my graphic design roots. What comes out might make Gutenberg roll in his grave, but I think the piece really comes alive. Must be seen in the light to truly be appreciated.
