3 weeks of getting my butt handed to me.

March has presented some challenging moments, but this is what I’m doing to fight back.

March continues to spank me, but I will not cry in the face of danger.

The gears that run the machine

March 27th! That’s when my new MacBook arrives, and I wish I had a way to speed up time to get there faster. Although I’ve found a workaround with my iPad, everything seems to take 2x longer than usual because the iPad isn’t meant to do everything a laptop can.

However, that shouldn’t matter because if I had more systems in place for my business, a portion of what I need to work on could be working itself in the background. I’m not talking about a robot-driven AI alternative to working. Instead, I want to use flywheels within my business that move things forward and, at a certain point, start driving themselves.

I have known about flywheels for a long time because of Jim Collins’s Good to Great, but I have never fully implemented one for myself. I know how they work, but the practice of keeping the wheel turning takes focus and dedication…which has always been a weak point in my defenses.

Without getting too nitty-gritty with details, a flywheel is a system built for driving growth around a particular goal. For instance, my main goal for The Hungry (and this newsletter) is to grow the subscriber base. Several methods are used to achieve that.

  • Subscriber referrals

  • Network recommendations

  • Content distribution channels / social media

  • Advertising

Each one of those could be a flywheel unto itself, and they all help move the overarching flywheel of growing the subscriber base and the first one looks something like this…

This week, I watched a video on the Billion Dollar Creator channel about flywheels with business coach Rachel Rodgers and ConvertKit CEO Nathan Barry. They went deep into the topic, and listening to it gave me some keen ideas and insight on how I can use flywheels within my system.

The thing is, these flywheels are not easy or quick to initiate in a business. They take time and energy, and the two have valuable insights into the process. Execution and focus are the most critical factors, and if you pay close enough attention, you’ll see all of that in action (plus, I’ll be sharing my findings as I work on it).

The Recap

That’s it for this one. I’ll be back up to full speed when you see me next time. Have a great week.

Cheers,

Dave
