Stolen Sharpie Revolution (the OG of contemporary zine culture) has a 31 day challenge to celebrate the International Zine Month, and though we’re already a few days behind, most of it is easy to catch up on.
YouTuber Alistair made me stop in my tracks when he states that we have ruined our hobbies by turning them into hustles, and now all I can think about is the stuff I’ve ruined but I’m trying to get back to the reason I loved doing them in the first place.
I love when artists and designers take on projects outside of their norm and turn those processes on their heads by not knowing their breaking the rules. Justin Ming-Yong didn’t know how to sew when he started making quilts, and that didn’t stop him from making some of the coolest tapestries I’ve ever seen.
I think video on Substack is weird, and it’s not clear if people even want to see it on the platform, but if we’re going to do it, can we do so with a bit more thoughtfulness?
