I’ve been enjoying the ways you’ve been challenging yourself monthly. Pencil on paper illustration, well, not something I ever had any luck with. Other mediums, I’ve faired well with though. Way back in the day I designed the logo and a tshirt for a local bicycle company. One a prize for charcoal. I loved charcoal. I might pick it back up when the MoonShadow stuff eases up a bit.
I really need to force myself into a poetry habit again. I can still teach and critique. Draw out the exact cadence. As far as writing my own it’s been spotty.
Do you have anything planned for after illustration?
Oh, btw- I think letting the pencil guide you is the best way(in most arts). Like you said, no real goal or defined outcome. When you’re trying to hone a skill, sometimes that’s the best way to go.
I’ll definitely be sharing the process and results throughout the month. Also, forcing it never got me good results, but reframing it to say I’m committing to it for a set period has helped a lot. Takes the burden off.
Oh yeah. I totally get that. I’ve actually been stacking up skills since 2019. My mental health issues slowed me down a lot. I picked one project a year for a while.
I did learn about graphic design though. I’m a pro with logos and such. I taught myself the big PC art stuff. Photoshop, GiMP, Blender, a wide array of photo tools. I’m pretty proud of that. I even designed clothing for a video game. Made some okay money that way.
Cheering you on. As a graphic artist myself, and with some drawing classes behind me, I’ve dedicated myself to the same and I truly do see the difference after 30 days. It’s worth it!! It truly is in the practice of the thing! (And letting go..).
Remember that progress could just be the doing, since it would be hard to gauge what “better” is beyond quantity and how you feel about your own progress, which may not be chartable! Keep going!
I really liked this honest newsletter/ audio. It covers so many creatives' thoughts. Keep drawing and enjoying 💫
Thanks Regina.

Are you gonna share any of your progress with us?

Thanks, Emme. I appreciate the encouragement. I’m two sketches in and a little unsettled by the results but I’m being ok with the suck for a while.

thanks Mike. I’m trying real hard to not be critical. That’s where I end up giving up too soon.
